Maʻū ~ Damp

Okay, so I thought today was going to be a good day, where I'd go out and find something to do, but it turned into a veeerrrryyyy lazy day, and resulted in me doing almost nothing all day long. Therefore, this post is a bit uneventful.

I woke up around 5:00, which I was not happy about, but did end up falling back asleep around 6:30, and sleeping until about 9:50, when I was up for good. I did not, however, get out of bed until a little after 11:00.

At 11:00, I got up, and put some actual clothes on to go down to breakfast, even though 80% of the students at breakfast are wearing PJ's, I'd just feel really weird.

For breakfast, I had a sausage, egg and cheese bagel, but the egg was cooked really weird and did not taste good, so I ended up taking it off. I drank OJ with it.

Once I was finished, I went back to my room and showered because I was fully prepared to go do something, and then I started thinking of what I could do. I was going to go to Target, because who doesn't love Target? And I haven't been since I left home. The closest one is about an hour and a half away on the bus though, and I was not prepared to sit on the bus for that long when I wasn't even sure I'd buy anything, I simply wanted to look around.

While I was thinking, I worked on some paper work that I needed to do, which is always super fun!...not.

So then my mom suggested going to the Zoo, which I'd love, but I don't really want to go by myself, so I decided to put that off until I find someone who will want to go with me. And after that I kind of gave up on going out to do something fun, so I thought I'd go to Walmart and pick up fruits and healthy foods.

I made a grocery list, but then I got side tracked by my phone, and ended up laying down and playing the Candy Crush, Flow, Fairway, Subway Surfers and Lep's World apps on my phone while listening to music.

I ended up falling asleep somewhere in there, and slept for about an hour, and woke up really tired. I do not know what is up with my body when I sleep, but I always wake up feeling less rested then when I fell asleep. It is probably because I sleep too much, but you know what, I value my sleep.

Anyways, I woke up around 5:00, and I was going to go to Walmart like I planned, but realized that it gets dark around 6:00, and I didn't want to be traveling and walking around campus at night, without someone else, so I put that off until tomorrow.

I didn't do anything else tonight besides getting dinner and doing my laundry, which took quite a while because I had to do three loads (whites, pinks/reds, and darks. I did, however, choose to do it at a great time, because there were plenty of washers open, and once it was time to dry, all of the working ones were free, so I didn't have to wait for anyone! :)

I made a little mistake though, and put all three loads into one dryer. Now the dryers are HUGE, so I had no problem getting them all to fit, but they ended up not drying completely. I didn't realize this until I was folding back in my room, and half of them were still damp. I knew that the dryers had already been taken, because there were people waiting for me, so I couldn't go back and dry them again, so I just laid them all around my room to dry overnight.

I also cleaned up/organized my entire room the way I want it so that I could finally post pictures of it for everyone who is interested in seeing it, but as I said, there are currently clothes hanging everywhere, so that will have to wait until tomorrow's post.

And, that brings us to now. I just finished folding, hanging the dry clothes onto hangers, and also hanging the wet ones around the room, and now I'm typing this. It is 11:30, and although I literally did nothing today, it went by pretty quickly, so that's good.

OH! And FSU beat Clemson tonight, which was awesome! Woo :)

I do have a plan for tomorrow so I don't end up being a lazy bum again. Stay tuned for that!

I'll talk to you then,
Goodnighttt :) <3

Hoʻopi-hapiha Waihona Pepa ~ To File Papers

Heeeey.

So, Friday's over, and it is now the weekend! Woo, no classes :)

Today was very tiring.

I woke up at 6:45, got up and got ready. I then left my dorm and went to my 8:30 class, Biology. Today's lecture was about genes, so it wasn't too bad.

After class, I had work from 9:30-12:00. I filed papers, I hole punched papers, I helped some people with questions at the front desk, which was cool, and I alphabetized about 50 million pieces of paper! Although it is busy work, the time passes really quickly and it is better than sitting in my dorm!

At 12:30, I had Oceanography and we talked about Atmospheric pressure and hurricanes and things like that. We also watched a clip from "The Day After Tomorrow", which is a good movie, however our professor showed us this clip solely to point out all of the incorrect physics laws that were used throughout the film. He's hilarious, and his British accent, white hair and suuuper short shorts add to it :)

After that class, I worked another hour from 1:30-2:30. In this time I removed 240 staples from packets that had to be scanned, but can't be scanned with staples in them. I didn't mind doing this, but boy does your hand cramp up after a while of using that staple remover thingy.

At 2:30, I caught the shuttle back to my dorm so that I could changed and head off to practice.

Practice today went by pretty quickly, but it was SO HOT out. Ew. We did get quite a bit done, though.

Once practice ended, I was done for the weekend. Woo! Not really.

I have no real plans for the weekend, my roommate went home again, but I'll figure something out. I usually just play it by mood anyways.

So I came up to my room, showered because I was sweating so much due to the awful heat outside, and put on some clean clothes.

I went down to the cafe and got some dinner around 6:30, and since then I've not done much. I've played multiple apps on my phone, watched a bunch of old/new YouTube videos from Pentatonix, whom I adore so much. It's amazing to have watched them grow so much since first seeing them on the Sing-Off, and knowing they'd win. <3

So today wore me out, just going from class to work to class to work to band and all that jazz, so I'm going to head off to bed now.

I'll talk to you tomorrow night, let's hope I find something interesting to do! :)

Goodnight <3

Kūpau ~ Finished

Alrightt, so I know that I planned to get up and run this morning, and I did get up, however it was drizzling outside, so I didn't go in the morning. BUT I made up for it and did end up going for a run in the afternoon :)

So as I said, I woke up to run, but since it was drizzling, I slept for about 45 more minutes before I had to get up and ready for the day.

I officially began working today, woo! On Thursdays I do not have class until 12:00, so I went in to the Nursing Department at 9:00, and today was mostly a training day. So my supervisor, Nichole, took me on a tour of the entire building, and there is even a simulation floor that looks and operates exactly like a hospital with test dummies that give birth, that stop breathing, babies who are crying, babies whose mouths turn blue and things like that for the nursing students to practice and be tested on. It is honestly really impressive and so cool!

I also met all of the people in our office as well as the dean's office and everywhere in between. I was meeting people left and right. The names will take a while to remember. So then she just trained me and basically told me what I'd be doing and where everything was located in the offices. I was then set to do my first project! I had to file a bunch of papers into current student folders, which I enjoyed. It is peaceful to get away from the rowdy/loud college kids and just keep to yourself but also be busy instead of bored like I always am!

I got off at 11:30, and went to campus center to get a smoothie from Jamba Juice, because I hadn't eaten yet. I got there and the line was really long, but I made it to class at 11:58, two minutes to spare. Luckily there were still seats available.

So this class was Chemistry, and as always he read the powerpoint word for word, and I almost fell asleep. After we got out, I went over to the Nursing department to work for another hour from 1:30-2:30. In this time, I completed the last few files left over from before, and also ran the mail up to the mail room. I met the other student workers who are both seniors, and they are really nice. Everyone in the entire department seems really nice, and I'm glad. I was worried I'd be working with a bunch of grouchy people, but they're all very friendly :)

At 2:30, I had to go to the campus shuttle stop to catch the Hawaiian Studies Express Shuttle, because if I had to walk all the way, I wouldn't have made it on time. Luckily I only waited for about 5 minutes before it came.

Hawaiian Studies was fun today! We first had a short class discussion about observing Hawaiian Culture in everyday life, and then we took a little walk down to the Manoa Stream and saw how the Kalo plant is grown and learned all about the irrigation system down there, which was really cool. Except for the extensive use of Hawaiian words our professor used that I didn't understand....

After class, I finally got back to my dorm at 4:30 for the first time since 8:20 this morning. I was tired. Before I rested and became too lazy, I got changed and went for a 30 minute run like I promised! When I got back, I lied down and watched an episode of LOST. I then got some dinner around 6:30, and I had already finished all of my homework for tomorrow, so I just watched LOST for the rest of the night...

...AND I FINALLY FINISHED THE SHOW.

Wow.

That was literally all I could think when it was over. There were so many questions and thoughts going through my mind, I didn't even know what to think. I have theories but there was so much left unanswered. I'm going to have to take a day or two to process everything, but wow.

The ending, actually the last few episodes, were so powerful and I cried at the end. :(

Nevertheless, it is one amazingly written show and I absolutely love it. I'm sure I'll watch it again because it is such a complex show that I feel like no matter how many times you watch it, you'll always find something new.

It is now 9:57, I'm tired, overwhelmed by that show (lol) and I'm ready for bed.
So I hope you enjoyed my day, and I'll talk to you tomorroww...Friday! :D

Goodnight <3

Hoʻolālā ~ Plan

8:17am - Good morning! I am currently sitting in my Biology lecture class, waiting for it to start. So far this morning, I got up and showered at 6:30, and then got dressed for my first day of work! I've decided to wear these new coral pants I recently bought, along with a cream colored silky shirt, my Gold Sperry's and my gold/tortoise shell watch!

I then had to stop at the bookstore before class because I've misplaced all of my gloves for my Bio lab, so I left my dorm at 7:45, got to the bookstore at 8:02, and they were out of disposable gloves. So I had to buy a pair of these thicker, heavy duty, reusable gloves and hopefully they will work.

As I was walking to the bookstore, there was a nice, full rainbow above the trees!

Well, class is about to start, so I'll talk to you guys a bit later!

9:15am - Class got out a few minutes early today, yay, and now I'm walking to my Lab which is in the next building over. Wish me luck!

10:27am - Okay, so I am now my Bio lab, it is going a lot better than last week. They aren't talking to me too much, but they aren't criticizing my every move like they were before. So that's a start!

10:49am - Well guys, I just got an email from my supervisor telling me that she stayed home sick today, which means that I can't start working today. But she assured me that tomorrow morning, I'll officially start! :)

11:41am - I am out of my Bio lab now, I didn't even use the gloves that I went out of my way to get :(, and I had a short conversation with both my mom and my sister, which was nice. Now I'm sitting outside of my next class and eating a Sweet 'n Salty Almond bar because I haven't eaten since lunch yesterday, and I'm super hungry! I don't have time to get food AND eat it before class starts, but this will tide me over until I can get lunch after class. Now that I don't have to work, I'll be able to pick up lunch and take it back to my room to eat it before class. I'm not sure what I want to get though...

1:25pm - Oceanography was really interesting today, we talked about how light and sound travels through water. So I am now out if class and I'm in campus se yet waiting for my chicken tenders to be cooked,

So right now was going to be when I started work, but since that got postponed I'm just going to go back to my dorm to eat these :)

3:27pm - I'm walking to practice now. It is like a billion degrees out so I'm not looking forward to this practice :(

6:08pm - I'm walking back to my dorm after practice now, and it wasn't too bad! It went by pretty quickly and the heat wasn't too bad. The moon is currently out and the sun is already almost completely set. I'm still not used to how early the sun sets here. It will be completely dark by 6:30-6:45. It's so weird!

I don't have any more plans for the rest of the night, but I'll keep updating and we'll see where it goes! :)

8:15pm - I'm currently taking a break from Candy Crush to update, but when I got back from practice, I finished all of my online homework for Bio and my Bio lab. And as I said I'm now playing candy crush :)

9:24pm - So right after my last update, I ran out of lives in Candy Crush, and since I had finished else everything for tonight, I started thinking about my near future. I have had a change of mind, and have suddenly decided that I really want to get my body healthier and more in shape. Although I do not feel as though I have gained weight so far in college, the "freshman 15" hasn't hit yet, but I don't feel like I'm eating well. I think the reason why I haven't seen weight gain is because I do not eat regularly, I typically only eat one meal a day, and that is also not good.

I currently have no snacks or junk food in my dorm, and I plan on keeping it that way. I've decided to get on a regular work out schedule and I am also going to try and eat better, and more regularly, with healthier foods.

I've written out some foods that I want to pick up at the store such as fruits, nuts, turkey, ect. and I'm going to pick those up this weekend sometime, and I wrote out a tentative running/cardio schedule that won't push me too hard, but will be good for my body. I am the worst runner ever, so I'll start out rough but it should get easier as I do it. I am going to begin tomorrow morning with a run at 6:30. I have set my mind to this, and I WILL stick to it this time. I'll update probably once a week on my progress! Let's do this :)

I also researched more into Studying Abroad, and I am almost certain that I want to do it. It'll either be in the Fall of 2014 (sophomore year) or the Spring of 2016 (junior year).

9:48pm - I'm going to head off to sleep for my run, and first day of work, for real this time :) I decided to try this style again, and I enjoy it a lot! I hope you all do too! Talk to you tomorrow, goodnight <3!

Kūʻē ~ Protest

Hi!

Today wasn’t too exciting, unfortunately.

I woke up and went to my Chemistry Lab at 9:00, which took the entire three hours. Usually our chem lab’s are relatively short, but not today. My partner and I also messed up halfway through, and had to start over, so that didn’t help things. We kind of had to rush.

We finally finished that though, and then I headed straight to my Chemistry Lecture which was boring, as always. After lecture, Amber and I went and got some lunch from Campus Center, and went back to our room to eat.

I didn’t have class again until 3:00, so I watched some LOST and also worked on my Bio Lab that is due tomorrow.

I had Hawaiian Studies at 3:00, and today was just a class discussion day. There was a protest/riot on campus today that my professor was involved and it was concerning the TMT (Thirty Meter Telescope) that the University plans to build on the summit of Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea is the large volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii, and it is considered sacred to the native Hawaiian People. So we talked about our views on this issue and how we felt it should be dealt with. It was a very interesting discussion, and I learned quite a bit from it.

After class, I was done, so I just came back to my dorm. I researched more into this topic, because I hadn’t heard of it prior to class today, to get a better understanding of what is happening. I then finished up my Bio lab for tomorrow morning, which I am not looking forward to if it is anything like last week...

I also got some dinner, watched two episodes of LOST (I am almost done!), and did this pre-lab assignment for tomorrow also.

Tomorrow is my first day of work, and I’m really looking forward to it! Although it will only be a day of training, I’m excited to begin working and seeing what it is like to have a job! :)

I’m going to get to bed now, because tomorrow from 8:00am-5:15pm, I will be completely booked and barely have any downtime, so I’ve got a busy day ahead of me!

I’ll talk to you all then, and I think that tomorrow’s post might be another one of those posts where I update what is happening at different times throughout the day, instead of all at once at the end of the day, because more times than not, I leave out some aspects of my day.

So I’ll talk to you all then!
Night >3

Pū Kuni Ahi ~ Cannon

Ew, Mondays are not exciting. But! Today marks two months since I left little, old Florida! That's crazyy!

As we all know, today is Columbus day, yeah?

Actually, no.

Here in Hawaii, Columbus Day is not considered, observed or recognized as a holiday at all, I guess because Columbus did not discover Hawaii, so it was weird to go about the day without hearing anything about it, oh well, I still would've had class either way!

So I woke up and got all ready for the day, and left for class around 8:00. My Bio lecture went well, today was about animal/plant cell reproduction. I though that I'd be starting work today, but unfortunately the paperwork had not fully cleared, and I got an email from my supervisor saying that I will officially start on Wednesday! I'm excited! :)

So I just went back to my dorm, and rested because I was tired...no surprise there.

I then headed off to my next class at 12:00, which was Oceanography. Today we discussed the composition and density of ocean water, as well as the flows/currents in the oceans around the world.

After, I, again, went back to my dorm. This time however, I worked on some online homework that is due on Friday and ate some Mac 'n Cheese...yum!

I also discovered that I cut the bottom of my foot on the reef yesterday, and I was in pain every time I walked. So I finally checked it out while I was in my room, and sure enough there is a cut going down my heel, and onto the middle part of my foot :(

Before I knew it, it was time for practice. Thankfully we were not on the field today because it was pretty nasty outside with lightning and thunder. So we just worked on music in sectionals and in full ensemble.

I was then done for the night, so I went back to my room. So boring. I have two quizzes that I studied for, finished all of my homework due tomorrow, and most of what is due on Wednesday. Then I got some dinner around 7:00, and when I was done, I went up to do some laundry, but all of the washers were taken and the dryer situation is still chaotic, so I opted to do it another time. I'll try again tomorrow night, fingers crossed!

Oh! So while I was sitting there doing homework, with soft music playing on my phone, from outside I hear this extremely loud *BANG*. I have absolutely no idea what it was, but it scared the life out of me, and kind of sounded like a cannon being shot off! Within about 5 minutes, the police showed up, and I'm not sure what was going on, but my roommate got back, and said that there were about 7 cops just standing watch in the courtyard and in the area. It's been nice and quiet since that happened about an hour ago, so it must have been all resolved, but that sound literally made me jump out of my seat, and also resulted in a long pen line down my homework, right in the middle of a word.

Well, that's it for now!
I'll talk to you all tomorrow, goodnight! <3

Hanauma ~ Curved

Heeeey! I had a really fun day today :)

My plans for the day were to go to Hanauma Bay which is this really cool area with fish and coral reefs where you can snorkel and scuba dive (and it is free for UH students, so hey! Why not?!)

So, I woke up around 10:00, and got ready, and then I met up with Marisa in the courtyard and we headed off to Walmart so we could buy some snorkel equipment.

Then we met up with her friend Brent and we headed off on the bus. We had to transfer busses at one point, and it happened to be raining, so there were puddles EVERYWHERE. There we were waiting on the sidewalk at the bus stop, and this car comes zooming by, and completely splashes us. We got soaked, it's a good thing we were going to the beach!

But for real, I'd never seen that happen to anyone, let alone me, in real life, only in movies, so when this happened we just looked at each other with our mouths open thinking, "Did that really just happen??"

It must have looked like this....

....because that is exactly what it felt like.

So after that, we got on the bus, and the bus ride was about 30 minutes, but we finally got there :) Our friend Nathan, who marches flute with Marisa and I, met us there.

So we then went in and watched this safety video, and then headed down to the bay. Here are some pictures of it, unfortunately my pictures do not do it justice, because I didn't have my nice camera and it was overcast the entire time. The colors are amazing, in real life though, and it is absolutely beautiful <3

Here is a picture of what it looks like when the sun is out and shining (and when you enhance the colors on the image...)

The water actually is CRYSTAL CLEAR though, it's incredible.

So we got in and unfortunately, the snorkel gear that I bought, would not fit over my glasses, no matter what I tried. So I then tried with my glasses off, and it worked, but my vision is so bad, that I could barely see anything and water began leaking through, so I gave up at that point. I did see two very large fish chasing each other, and their size probably had to do with why I could see them...haha. But I was so frustrated, and nothing was working, so I just gave up, but I still stayed in the water, and talked to Brent because Marisa and Nathan went really far out.

The coral reef is suuuper sharp and I, unintentionally, cut up my legs in a few spots, but overall I had a good time :)

Oh, and I decided to put my LifeProof to the test, and I just went for it and dunked my phone under the water to take a picture. Here is the picture, I took it right on the shore, so you can't see much, because the reef starts pretty far out and a lot of sand was getting kicked around, sorry! But I was amazed at how good these cases really are :)

We left around 5:00, and as we were walking up the large hill we heard an announcement that said the the last City Bus would be leaving at 5:15, and as we got to the top, we saw the bus leaving in the distance and got kind of worried! But I checked my phone, and all was well. There was another one coming in like 10 minutes, so I don't know why that guy said that, but we got really worried!

But the bus came, and we hopped on. None of us had eaten today, so they decided that I should try this place called Zippy's, because I had yet to try it. We went there, and it is pretty much a Hawaiian Denny's. It was really good!! I decided not to venture out and try something new, and went for my default meal which is a grilled cheese and fries. I also got Raspberry Tea with it. It was really good, but next time, I think I'll try and branch out because they have tons of diversity within their menu.

We then wanted to stop at this gelato place that they had been to before, but they closed about 5 minutes before we got there, so that didn't happen.

And then after that, we just got on the bus and came back to campus!

It was a really fun day, and although a few things did not go as planned, it was nice to get out and do something rather than just sitting in my room all day. :)

I got back around 7:30, and then cleaned up and showered to get all of the salt water off. I then watched an episode of LOST, and now I'm about to head off to sleeeeep!

I hope everyone back home is doing well, I miss you!
Talk to you tomorrow! Gooooodniiiiggghtttt! <3
