ʻOle Loa ~ Nothing

Nothing.

That is what I did today.

I slept in until about 11:00 this morning, and then sat around reading.

I then got an email that my Christmas care package had come from my family :) So I went down and got it. Inside, my mom sort of themed it as an advent package, so there is one thing to open each day starting December 1st up through the day I fly home!

Also inside were some cute decorations and even a few presents for Amber :)

I have the best family in the world, and am so thankful for them. <3

So other than that, I watched Gossip Girl, went to theMarket and did a load of laundry, but that's about it.

Oh, I did order a pizza for dinner! :) But I have so much left over.

And sadly, that's it!

It was upper gloomy and rainy out today, the sun didn't some out once! And it is still pouring outside. So that kind of ruined any chances of going out and doing something, and all of the stores were probably packed with shoppers, so I just decided to stay in!

I hope your day was exciting :)
I'll talk to you tomorrow which is a game day!
Goodnight! <3

Hau'oli La Ho'omakika' ~ Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, today was Thanksgiving!

I woke up this morning and went off to the theaters to see Frozen, and it was really great :) I enjoyed it a lot, although I felt a bit out of place being there alone surrounded by a ton of families..

So then I came back to my dorm.

As much as I'd like to say that I ended up making up my mind of what to do tonight, I didn't.

I had received a few invites from a couple friends to celebrate with them, but for some reason, it just didn't feel right. I would've felt awkward and I honestly didn't want to physically celebrate Thanksgiving without my family.

I did however, sit down and think about all of the things that I am thankful for. We truly cannot take anything for granted, because chances are, we are more fortunate than so many others. I really wanted to do some volunteer work today such as serving meals to the homeless, but last night when I was looking places up, it was too late. You have to submit volunteer forms to most places, and they won't just let you walk in. So that was a bit disappointing, but it was nice to know that these people were getting hot meals served to them.

So although I ended up not taking the offers from friends, I decided that I wasn't going to mope around, so I went out and took a walk, just around campus. It was nice to just admire the landscape and the simplicity of things.

I was planning on going Black Friday shopping with a few friends tonight, but I ended up feeling really sick to my stomach, on the verge of throwing up. It was probably due to the Twix bar that I ate at 9:54am, along with the other junk food that I bought at the movies...oops!

So I ended up just staying in tonight, reading Insurgent, watching Gossip Girl, and actually took a nap around 7:00.

Although it wasn't the Thanksgiving I had in mind, it was an enjoyable day nonetheless.

But I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving, and ate tons of food! :)

I'll talk to you guys tomorrow! <3

ʻAno ʻē ~ Odd/Peculiar

Not much to talk about/update you on today. It was a pretty boring one, sorry!

First off, I slept awful last night! I felt so unrested when I woke up; it was horrible. I'm not sure why though.

So, I went to Biology at 8:30, and then came back to my dorm since Bio Lab was cancelled due to the shortened week.

Fortunately, I was able to sleep for about 2 more hours in my dorm, before having to get up and go to Oceanography!

I've come to the conclusion that the professor who is teaching this 1/3 of the class is very odd/peculiar. He tends to put music into his power points, and then he stands at the front of the room and plays air guitar to the "ripping guitar solos".

And then today, he like fell completely onto the ground, where the steps are and stayed there for a good few minutes because one student got the wrong answer. Like? That's kind of weird. Haha.

I then worked from 1:30-2:30 and I filed, took the mail up, alphabetized flies, and helped at the front desk!

We did not have practice today, thankfully, so I was done for the day!

I had planned to go see Frozen tonight, but since I am going alone and the movie wouldn't get out until about 8:30, I didn't feel like going and having to walk the sketchy streets and take the bus when it was pitch black, so I'm going to go tomorrow!

I've been watching Gossip Girl, reading Insurgent (the second book in the Divergent Trilogy) and reaching a volunteer trip to Peru next Spring that I am interested in! :)

I hope you had a good day!

Tomorrow, when you read this, it'll be Thanksgiving :)
So enjoy and eat!
Goodnight <3

Hana Hoʻopīhoihoi ~ Adveture

Well, today was much better than yesterday!

I was able to sleep in until 9:00 before getting up to study for my exam some more.

I studied until it was time to head off to the exam! We got there and had to wait for like 20 minutes to start because the professor was making us wait until the last possible second!

So I came out of it feeling really good!

Then Amber and I went and got some lunch! We decided to take the shuttle back, but ended up getting on the wrong one. It was an adventure! We had no idea where we were, it was actually quite funny :) we just stayed on until it went back to campus and then hopped on the right one when it came.

At 3:00 I had Hawaiian Studies and we watched a film called "Act on War" which was really good! I enjoyed it a lot.

When I got out of class, I had about 10 minutes until work started, so I waited for the shuttle. It comes around and I step on and he tells me to get off, and that he wasn't going back to Campus Center, so he was kind of rude.

That meant that I had to walk alllllllll the way there and I ended up being 15 minutes late for work, they didn't mind though. I didn't do anything anyways.

Then I was done! So I came back to my room, worked on online homework, read, watched GG, and how I'm off to sleep!

Talk to you tomorrow!
Goodnight <3

Weliweli ~ Awful

Boy am I glad that today is over!

Let's just say that I had a pretty bad day overall.

It started by waking up late and missing Biology this morning, which is not a good thing considering it is not my strong point.

I made it to work at 9:30, which was good. I kept busy the entire time by scanning things into the computer while keeping an eye on the front desk.

It was then time for Oceanography which I enjoyed today! We talked about sharks for a brief part of lecture which will always boost my alertness and mood :)

After Oceanography I worked another hour from 1:30-2:30 and it was so busy! There were like a thousand people coming in and out and asking questions and it was super hectic and stressful. I couldn't keep things straight in my mind and I was just a mess.

After that was done and over with, I headed back to my room.

On the way back I stepped in a very well hidden pile of mud and got it all over my gold Sperry's making them look disgusting. I was able to get it off of the leather, but not off of the laces which are a softer leather cord that is holding that mud in tight :(

Practice had been pushed back today to 5:15, or so I though.

I left my dorm at 4:30 and got to the Campus Center Ballroom at 4:45. Today we were recording all of the music that we have played this year, and so it was held in the ballroom.

Well as I got to the outside of it, I could hear the band playing inside and knew I was late. I couldn't figure out why they had already started when it wasn't supposed to start until 5:15. Well I later found out that it had been pushed up an hour to 4:15, which was indicated in an email that the assistant band director sent out. For some reason I have not been getting her past few emails. I told her, but I'm still not getting them, so I'll have to talk to her again about that because that caused me so much trouble today.

So I hear them playing outside, and there are three of the tech guys outside of the door. I patiently wait outside of the door until they stop playing, and then the guys kindly let me in.

I put my instrument together and start walking across the ballroom which felt about a mile long, with about 200 pairs of eyes on me, all except for the band director who then starts conducting again and they start playing.

I'm still walking so I just continue walking to my spot and then fall into the arc and begin playing where they were.

Well, he sees me walk up, and stops the entire band along with the recording. His next words were, "Can someone please watch the door to make sure no one walks in WHILE WE ARE RECORDING!" Full on shouting by the end of his sentence. Then he looks at me and like rolls his eyes and starts conducting.

It was embarrassing. However, I was more angered by the fact that this happened rather than embarrassed, because had he been facing the other way he would have seen that I walked in between songs and no one was playing yet!

I would never have just walked in when I knew they were recording, and there were people who were monitoring the traffic coming and going from the room, and they were the ones who let me in! None of it was my fault, but it put an even bigger damper on my day.

After practice, I got a laugh in when walking with Marisa and Nathan, and they made me feel better.

I then walked back to my dorm.

It was study time.

I studied for about 2 hours before stopping and kind of having a small mental breakdown.

Nothing specific caused it, I think it was just a whole conglomeration of things. I was stressed about this Chemistry exam tomorrow, upset from the day I had, sad about not being able to go home for Thanksgiving which seems to be getting worse the closer Thursday comes, and homesickness.

Since my mom left I have not felt an overwhelming feeling of homesickness, until tonight. Again, it might be heightened by everything that is going on right now, but I just really wish I could go home. Even if it was only for a day.

It is now 12:15am, and I still do not feel as though I am ready for this exam, but I am absolutely exhausted and need to sleep. If I continue studying right now it will do me no good.

I don't have my Chem Lab tomorrow morning, so I'm free until noon. I plan to wake up early and finish studying then, but for right now, I need to sleep this day away, and start fresh tomorrow.

So I really hope all of your days were way better than mine, and I'll talk to you tomorrow!

Goodnight <3

Pau ~ Finished

Unfortunately, after coming to the realization that I have an important Chemistry exam coming up on Tuesday, today ended up not going as I had hoped.

I wanted to get out and go see Catching Fire again and possibly go to the mall to get some Christmas Presents, but as I said my main focus was studying.

I woke up around 11:30 and read Divergent for a while. Then around 2:00, I began studying and I studied for a few hours.

I then watched some Gossip Girl and then went back to reading!

Amber was here all weekend this time, and she decided to order some pizza, so we ate that for dinner because we are tired of the same old food that they serve at the caf.

I then began reading again at like 8:00, and I finished the book! :) 487 pages in two days, oh yeah!

It was really good and very well written! I enjoyed it a lot, and look forward to not only reading the other two books in the trilogy, but also seeing the movie that comes out in March!

I was thinking about buying the other two books right now on my Kindle and starting them since they are both only $6.99, but decided I'm too tired to read anymore tonight.

If I buy them now then I'll get distracted from studying which is what I am going to be doing all day tomorrow whenEVER I have free time for this dreaded Chem exam.

I'll buy them/read them once this exam is over and I have time to read over this five day weekend coming up! Woo :)

And that's it!
Sorry for the suuuuper unproductive/boring weekend, hope yours was better! :)
Goodnight <3

Heluhelu ~ Read

So today was a pretty much a rest day for me, which will result in a pretty short post, my apologies!

I woke up around 8:30, and literally sat in bed switching off between reading Divergent and watching Gossip Girl all day.

Around 4:00 I finally got up and had to shower up and get dressed. Tonight I subbed for our section leader at one of the Rainbow Wahine Volleyball games, which started at 7:00.

Once I was ready, I decided to make a little trip to theMarket because I still had 5 meals left this week, so I spent those and then came back and put it all away.

It was about 5:45 at this point and I watched half of an episode of GG before heading off to the Stan Sheriff Center for the game.

Now, I did not know that we would be playing in front of the stadium before the game, so as I was walking, I could hear the band playing. So I rushed to get there.

I didn't know who the other flute players would be since this was not a game I had originally signed up for, but when I got there, there were no flutes out there playing.

I joined in and played the last five songs before we headed into the stadium.

I was still the only flute player, until finally right before the game started, Marisa and Raquel showed up.

The game was great! We played Cal State NorthRidge, and it was a pretty close game, but we pulled out the victory! :)

Tonight was Senior Night for them, so it was an exciting win!

After the game I came back, and it is now present time. I am sitting at my desk typing this, and afterwards, I plan on getting into bed and reading Divergent! It's really good! If you are into Distopian Novels, read this trilogy! :)

I'll talk to you all tomorrow night! <3

Maka ~ Eye

Wow! This is my 100th post! Can you believe it?

Happy Aloha Friday to you all! :)

Here are a few pictures from yesterday at the movie theater that I forgot to post in that post!

OKAY! So I saw this giant eye thing and told Marisa to take my picture next to it, when all of a sudden THE EYE STARTS MOVING. It freaked me out, so instead of taking a nice picture, I took this one :)

There is me in the LEGO Movie cutout in the top center. This thing is meant for children only, as specified on the back, but I wanted my picture so I got it. However the head-hole was so tiny! Clearly my head doesn't fit, as you can see.

The Hobbit!

This is Olaf from Frozen, but he is in a grass skirt and his hips shake! <3 :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've had a great day today!
I woke up and went to Bio, and then worked from 9:30-12:00, I did things like filing, copying, scanning, and also manning the front desk. Nichole moved into one of the smaller offices within our office, so now the front desk is the student workers responsibility! It's fun :)
I had Oceanography after that, and although the normal professor is back, it wasn't too bad today. The lecture was pretty interesting; it was about the Primary Producers of the ocean.
I then worked again. Now typically on Monday/Wednesday/Friday afternoons, I only work from 1:30-2:30 but practice was cancelled today, meaning that I had nothing left for the rest of the day. So I stayed in the office until 4:00, meaning that I worked five hours today! I had tons of projects though so I kept busy the entire time. In the afternoon I had to count out graduation invitations for students who requested them and monitored the Walk-In Advising appointments. :)
I also got my first ever paycheck today which was wonderful and made my day!
I then went back to my dorm because I had been gone from 8:00am-4:00pm! Such a long day.
Since getting back, I haven't done too much.
I got my Thanksgiving card from my family including a rubber band bracelet that my little brother made me, which was really nice and even made me tear up a little just thinking about not being able to come home for Thanksgiving which is going to be very hard :(
So I watched some GG and ate some dinner once I got back.
Around 9:00, I went outside to check out this Fair that is going on in our dorm's courtyard. There is music, a dunk tank, raffles, and just tons of fair games. I walked around to see what was happening, and it's pretty cool, but I would guess that there are a couple hundred students down there and I couldn't deal with all of that.
I've also been reading! I have been wanting to read the Divergent series for quite a while, so I decided to buy the book on my Kindle. It was only $3.99, what a steal! I've been reading that for about an hour and a half, and it is really good so far.
And somehow it is now 12:28am and I feel like I am keeping my roommate up, when she is trying to get to sleep, so I'm going to go now!
I'll talk to you tomorrow night <3
Lā Hānau ~ Birthday
Haaaapppppyyyyy 21st Biiirrrtttthhhhdddaaaayyyy to the best sister ever! :)
Okay, so today was really fun!
Although it was hard getting out of bed this morning, I finally got up and ready.
I worked from 9:00-11:30 and I scanned papers into the computer, filed some things, and manned the front desk while Nichole was at an eye appointment.
I had Chemistry after that and then I had a break until 3:00, so I called and talked to my sister who was enjoying her first alcoholic drink! :)
I then just sat and watched Gossip Girl until it was time for Hawaiian Studies which was interesting. We talked more about Cook and the colonization of the Hawaiian Islands. I also learned about the Hawaiian Flag. I never understood the pattern of it but it incorporates the British flag and the American flag to represent their bond with both nations.
After class I called and talked to my mom while heading to work. I haven't talked to her in a few days, so that was nice :)
I then worked for another hour and a half where I filed a ton of papers.
At 6:00, I was free at last!
I headed back to my room to drop off my backpack and print out the movie tickets for Catching Fire!!!
I went with Nathan and Marisa, of course, and we went to the 8:00 showing. It was weird not seeing it at midnight because that it what I am used to, but it was also kind of cool to see it before the actual release day!
As far as the movie goes? It was incredible. It followed the book so well and although there were a few things that could've been changed, it was awesome! Definitely a must see for everyone!
Then we came back to campus and I'm back in my room now, all changed and ready to sleep! I'm pretty tired.
So I'll talk to you tomorrow; Friday! Finally.
Goodnight <3
Kanakē ~ Candy
Not much to update you all on today. It's been a pretty chill day!
I woke up for Bio this morning and then had my Bio Lab at 9:30. Today's lab was honestly pretty pointless. We first had to group these index cards by different shapes on them, and then we had to find 8 different groups to categorize candy bars into, which we then were allowed to eat!! We got out early though, so I guess I shouldn't really complain! :)
I had an hour and a half until Oceanography, so I went to Jamba Juice and got a smoothie plus a bistro sandwich and also talked to my dad.
We had the same guest speaker in Oceanography as we did on Monday, and i again really enjoyed the lecture. It could also be due to the fact that we talked about the mammals of the ocean including sharkss! :)
I worked an hour from 1:30-2:30, and I worked on a bunch of copying of individual papers in different student files. The papers are quite old and due to the humidity, they tend to stick together, so the cipher got jammed about 9 times out of 10, how wonderful! I have to finish that up tomorrow, but after I went back to my dorm to get my things ready for practice.
Practice was indoors again, woo! We simply worked on music again. Next Monday we are recording everything that we payed this year, so we it's refreshed ourselves on the music.
I've been in my dorm watching gossip girl, doing online bio homework and studying for Chemistry.
It is also technically my sisters birthday in Florida, even though there are a few hours until the 21st, I called her right at midnight to wish her a super happy birthday! She is turning 21 on the 21st! Must be lucky :)
And that's it!
Tomorrow should be a pretty exciting day though!
Be on the lookout for that post! :)
Talk to you then! Night! <3
Mea ʻono ~ Cake
Another boring day here in paradise. The days seem to be getting longer the closer I get to flying home! I'm just so excited :)
So today I was able to sleep in because our Chemistry Lab is now over! So I slept until about 10:00, then I got up and ready for Chemistry at noon.
After Chemistry I came back to my room for about an hour, and worked on a little homework for my Bio lab tomorrow.
I had Hawaiian Studies at 3:00, which went well. We talked about Captain James Cook and how he came about discovering the Hawaiian Islands.
We got out if class about 15 minutes early, and as I walked out to catch the shuttle, it was pulling away at that exact moment. This meant I had to wait about 15 minutes for it to come back around again.
I then worked from 4:20-6:00. I tied ribbon around some certificates, I made copies, I ran the mail up to the mail room, and I helped one of the ladies in the office take all of her stuff to her car. Today was her last day in the office, which is sad. She is so nice! Her name is Leslie and she always was so peppy and sweet to me. She also brought in some chocolate cake today, and I got a piece if it. Yumm!
After work I had planned on going to the gym, but when I got there all of the elliptical and bicycle machines were taken and there was a wait for them, so I decided that it was a bad time. I'll try again at an earlier time in the day when it is hopefully not as crowded!
So I then went back to my room and I've been working on my Bio Lab homework which took forever! As well as a paper for Hawaiian Studies. Also, I've been cleaning up the hard drive on my Mac. There is so much clutter on there that has accumulated over the past two and a half years like random baby animal pictures and games and documents that I don't need anymore. All of it is slowing down my computer. So I didn't finish, but I'll probably work on it more tomorrow.
And that's it for today's post! Sorry they aren't the most exciting recently. I hope people are still reading! :)
Well I'll talk to you tomorrow night!
Byee! <3
Ula ~ Lobster
I fly home in exactly one month! EEEEEEP! I am so excited :)
So...
Boring and uneventful.
That was my Monday for ya.
I woke up, got ready and went to class.
I then worked from 9:30-12:00 where I didn't do anything really. I alphabetized, stapled and hole-punched some papers and that's about it.
I had Oceanography from 12:00-1:20 and we had a guest lecturer. She was really cool and so much better than the normal professor. Today's lecture was about Marine Invertebrates. Included were some videos of crab and lobster larvae which are actually the most adorable things ever!
I then worked one more hour from 1:30-2:30, and this time I really did nothing except man the front desk.
I walked back to my dorm and talked to my parents, and had a snack before practice.
Practice was inside today and we just worked on music.
And that's it for my day!
Oh, and here is a picture of my door that I talked about in yesterday's post. I love it and think it is zoo cute :)
Thanks for reading!
I'll talk to you all tomorrow!
Goodnight <3
Wahine ~ Woman
Here is yesterday's marching performance!
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ndfJ0W3zYAM&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DndfJ0W3zYAM
Today wasn't the most interesting one out there, but overall it was a good day!
I slept in until about 11:00, and then got up and showered. Marisa and I wanted to go to PetSmart to see the animals today, but she ended up not waking up until like 3:00., so that didn't happen.
I just sat around and watched some Gossip Girl, and then around 2:00, Cari, another flute player texted me and asked if I could sun for her at the basketball game today since she is sick. I agreed since I had absolutely nothing else to do. :)
So I got dressed for that and left at 3:30. I ended up getting there really early again, but I just sT and watched the end of the previous game. Today's game was a Rainbow Wahine Game which are the womens basketball team, which is not at interesting and intense as the men's, but it was still fun to watch.
So yesterday at the football game, the entire flute section was playing with, braiding and just admiring my hair, and they continued to talk about it today at the basketball game. It is so funny to hear them talk about how nice my hair is, when in reality, I'm jealous of their hair! :)
Unfortunately we lost the game, but it was very close the entire time and the final score was 57-52.
After the game I just came back to my room for the night. I printed out little Santa hats and taped them to our little ice cream on the outside of our door, and also made some holiday decorations for our room which I'll take pictures of and post tomorrow. I would do it now, but in already in bed and don't feel like getting out :)
My roommate got back around 9:15, and we had a nice hour and forty-five minute long conversation. We haven't been talking much lately, so that was cool. :)
And now I'm laying in bed, ready to drift off and sleep!
So I'll talk to you tomorrow!
Goodnight <3
Hemahema ~ Awkward
Today was definitely not a boring day for me!
I woke up pretty early this morning, around 8:00 and got ready. I finally decided on getting pizza for the potluck tonight so I looked up the Pizza Hut hours, and they opened at 10:00. So in the meantime I got all of my game day things together including my uniform and hat and all that jazz.
At 10:00, I called Pizza Hut and placed my order. I figured it wouldn't be too expensive, and then she tells me that it is going to be $42.00 for 3 large pizza's and I was really surprised. Anyways, I caught the bus and got the pizzas. I check the receipt and they charged me $3.00 extra for having the pizza cut into 12 slices each instead of 8, even though she is the one who offered and did not tell me she's be charging me more. Whatever.
So I then had to catch the bus back to campus, and let me tell you, don't ever go onto a public bus with three fresh, hot pizzas. It is very awkward.
First of all, the bus driver gave me the weirdest look ever when I got on, and then it was a pretty crowded bus and everyone was just like pointing and looking at me with my pizza's. I was not enjoying it. Oh and not to mention the smell was like wafting through the bus, drawing even more attention to me.
I got back to my dorm around 11:15, rested for about 20 minutes, and then headed off to the music building. It was quite the struggle having to carry my uniform, helmet, hat box, bag with shoes, socks, gloves, AND three large pizza's clear across campus, but I eventually made it.
We then headed off to the stadium! And when we got there, I see that Nathan ended up bringing pizza too! He brought two cheese pizza's and I had two pepperoni, one cheese, so we had plenty!
It was then time to rehearse, which was for about 2 hours, and then the warrior walk.
After this, it was time to eat :)
We had a big pizza party basically, and it was great! While we were eating, the whole section was playing this really fun party app called "Head's Up Charades". It was hilarious!
I still have 1 1/2 pizza's left though that I had to shove into the door of our mini fridge because the box barely fits!
Game time finally came around, and we headed out for pre-game, which went well, but is kind of boring now.
Today we played San Diego State, and for the first two quarters, we played pretty well, but it was tied 14-14 at half time.
Half time was great! I think we did really well and I'll post the video once it is up, which will be tomorrow.
Unfortunately we did not win the game, but it did go into overtime, so it wasn't a huge loss for us!
After the game, Nathan and Marisa wanted to know if I wanted to go with them. We were going to go to the beach, but instead they decided to stop at Jack in the Box to get stuffed Jalapeño Peppers and then go to Walmart. What a surprise...haha! :) It was really fun though because we were all tired, which caused everything to be funny.
Tomorrow we are going to go to PetSmart and see the animals there and maybe do something else, we haven't decided yet.
I'll be sure to let you know tomorrow though!
So, I guess I'll talk to you then!
Goodnight :) <3
Makana ~ Cookie
Today was a pretty productive one!
I did accidentally sleep in about 30 minutes this morning, but I still got up and ready in plenty of time for Biology at 8:30. Afterwards, I worked from 9:30-12:00. There wasn't much for me to do around the office, however, one of the employees in the Nursing Dean's Office is leaving and moving to California. There was a little get together with food, and my supervisor and I went up and wished her off.
Oh! And she has this itty bitty dog who is the cutest thing EVER! He was even all dressed in a little yellow rain-coat. He's affordable! :)
I had Oceanography from 12:30-1:20, we talked about biology in the ocean...Marine Biology! Haha :) I enjoyed it!
I worked another hour from 1:30-2:30 and I was in charge of the front desk again because Nichole had to go to class.
That was it for the day, except for practice. Thankfully, practice was inside today and we just worked on music.
After practice, when I got back to my room, I got a lot of things done! I started a load of laundry only because I needed to wash my UH Marching Band shirt for the game tomorrow. While those were washing I went to theMarket to use up my leftover meals, came back and moved the clothes to the dryer. While waiting for the clothes to dry which takes an hour, I went and ate some dinner.
Ooh, and they just so happened to have white chocolate, macadamia nut cookies in the cookie tray! I was so excited, they're my faaavorite! <3
I then retrieved my dry clothes, folded them, and put them away. I also submitted my timesheet for work, did my online lab homework that is due tomorrow, watched Gossip Girl, and cleaned/tidied up my room!
And I am now stuck on what I am going to do about the main dish I have to bring to the game tomorrow! I'm thinking about bringing pizza, but I don't really want to spend $30 on pizza so....I'll just keep thinking!
But now, I'm heading off to sleep because I'm going to have to get up pretty early to go get some "main dish" and still get back by 12:15 so that I don't miss the band bus to the game that leaves at 12:30!
Soo, I'll talk to you tomorrow night :)
See ya <3
Nā Palaoa Me Nā Mea Hōʻonoʻono I Waena ~ Sandwich
So about 10 minutes after writing up my post last night, the fire alarms go off. We though that it was just another drill, but then we smell smoke, and the firetrucks come, a billion firefighters enter the building, and we are all stuck outside in the courtyard for about 25 minutes. Apparently there was a small fire that broke out on the 8th floor. I don't know any details or what exactly happened, but everything/everyone is okay!
So today, I woke up and got ready for work. I worked from 9:00-11:30, but I didn't really have much to do because my supervisor was out sick today so I was in charge of the front desk, and I also had to print out and staple a bunch of student transcripts.
I then stopped off at the Study Abroad center to get some extra information about the program, had a nice conversation and then went to Chemistry at 12:30, which wasn't interesting in the slightest. After class, I went back to my dorm, watched Gossip Girl, and then I had Hawaiian Studies at 3:00. Today we talked about the Spanish invasion on Guam.
I then had a nice conversation with my mom before heading off to work for another hour and a half from 4:30-6:00. This time, I literally did nothing. There was nothing for me to do, so I kind of just sat there and kept an eye on the front desk.
I decided to try the sandwich shop again after last week's disaster, and it was fine this time! No icky veggies, no mayonnaise; perfect! :)
I ate my dinner while watching GG, worked on some online homework, did even more research to figure out what I am doing next semester, and next year, and played Candy Crush on my phone.
I'm such an exciting college kid, huh? :)
Okay, well that's it for tonight!
I'll talk to you later!
Gooodnighttt! <3
Pai pika ~ Pizza
Today was an early one, I woke up around 5:30 this morning with no hope of falling back asleep. So I just got ready and watched Gossip Girl before heading off to Biology.
Usually I would have my Biology Lab for three hours, but it was canceled this week due to Monday being a holiday. They didn't want the kids with the Monday lab to get behind so, no lab!
I took advantage of the three hours I had and went back to my dorm and slept! I was able to sleep for about two hours before getting back up to go to Oceanography.
I then worked from 1:30-2:30, where I didn't do much, just saved student files onto the computer.
I had practice today, so I went back to my room and got changed. Nathan happened to be talking to a friend in the courtyard, so we walked to practice together and unfortunately it was a hot day today and I was not really looking forward to practice.
There is a football game this Saturday and we will be performing the same show as last week, which is okay because I like it a lot! Oh, by the way, last week's performance has been posted to YouTube, so here it is if you're interested!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZkUz7oT_6c
This week is the week where I have to bring a main dish for the pot luck, and Nathan is also bringing a main dish. We were talking about how both of us should bring pizza because all they ever bring is rice and chicken/spam! So we need to bring some Mainland food into the mix! Haha :)
Practice ended about 10 minutes early today, which is always nice! After that I went back to my room and called my dad about something that I needed to order online for an upcoming birthday! :)
Since then I've watched Gossip Girl, ate dinner, almost finalized my Spring 2014 class schedule, and organized my desk a bit.
Wellll, that's it for tonight. It is still pretty early, but I won't be doing anything else besides watching GG and then getting an early night tonight!
So I'll talk to you guys tomorrow!
Goodnight <3
Kī ~ Tea
Yayy!
Today was the last Chemistry Lab for this semester! Woo!
So I woke up and walked to my lab with Amber and it was actually cold outside! We were shivering while walking! It was nicer than the blazing hot sun though! :)
In today's lab we sublimes naphthalene which is more commonly known as the smell of moth balls. We had to heat the stuff and let me tell you, it smelled absolutely disgusting in our classroom! Ew, I was like gagging.
Also in lab, there were two groups who had their large glass dish spontaneously crack/explode which was a bit concerning. My partner and I didn't have any issues though! But hey! At least the lab ended on an exciting note  :)
After that, Amber and I went and got some lunch, and then went to our chem lecture at 12:00.
We went back to our dorm after that and just rested before our next classes.
My class wasn't until 3:00, which is Hawaiian Studies. Today we discussed a lot op topics such as language, crime, restoring hawaiian culture, government and other issues of the same idea. These were things that our guest speaker talked about last week and we kind of touched on those subjects in a class discussion. It was very interesting.
I then worked from 4:30-6:00 and all I did was remove a bunch of papers from folders, and double check some information on a slreadsheet. I also realized that two of the people in the office don't know my name. One of them calls me Kaylee which isn't too bad, and the other calls me Kyle! She is a lady with a strong a accent though, so maybe she doesn't even realize it.
And then I stopped off at Starbucks to get some tea and caught the shuttle back to my dorm. There was an elderly lady on the shuttle who asked me about my drink and then proceeded to inform me about how tea grown in China is full of harmful chemicals and I shouldn't be drinking it....
Back in my dorm I watched Gossip Girl and did some more research about my upcoming college years. Fun!...
Well, that's about it for today!
I hope it wasn't too boring!
I'll talk to you tomorrow!
Goodnight <3
Koa kahiko ~ Veteran
No school today because it was Veterans Day. Thank you to all of the men and women who have fought for our country. <3
Well, although today was not the most exciting day ever, it wasn't the most boring either. I slept in until about 11:00, showered and got dressed and then tried to figure out what to do. Since I have been cooped up in my room for the majority of the past two days, I wanted to get out and do something.
So I talked to my parents a bit, and finally decided on the mall! You can't go wrong with the mall!
So off I went.
I started off at Forever 21, because that is my favorite store and I bought a skirt, a Jaws muscle tank that I love, a kitty phone that I'm obsessed with, some tweezers and a key chain thing.
Story time!
As I was shopping, one of the sales associates asks me if I needed a bag and I said sure! Then he proceeds to ask me if I was by chance military, because they get a discount today, and I said no. His response? "Girl, let me tell you, you need to find yourself a military man, and marry him so that you can use his discount whenever you want!" I laughed! He was hilarious :)
After that I walked around for what seemed like forever! I went into bath & Body Works, American Eagle, the quilt shop, Macys, J. Crew, and Vera Bradley, but never really found anything anywhere. So I just got some Starbucks and went to catch the bus.
When I got back to my dorm around 5:30, I did a load of laundry. Dryer update, there are now 5 working dryers instead of the 3 that there used to be. It's an improvement!
After my laundry I worked on some homework for tomorrow and Wednesday, and watched Gossip Girl!
And that's it!
I'll talk to you tomorrow night!
Goodnight <3
Makani ~ Wind
So today was a pretty lazy day for me!
I woke up and watched some Gossip Girl, which I'm not sure if I've mentioned or not, but it is my current show that I'm watching, and I am on the second season right now. So I just watched an episode of that, and then I had an idea!
I know that I've put pictures of my dorm here at UH, but I had an idea to make a short video/movie/film of my room!
So that's what I did!
I got out my camera and started filming things in my room in artsy ways. I imported all of it into my computer, and got to work!
It didn't take too long, the only problem was that iMovie kept crashing and it got really annoying. My work would save, I just had to restart my computer about five times!
So here is the final product! I apologize for any shakiness and/or blurriness. I didn't realize it until I was editing it, and didn't feel like going back and re-filming it. It could have ended up better, but I still like it :)
After that, I watched some more Gossip Girl, and also did some basic ab workouts like crunched and planks. In the middle of a plank the fire alarm goes off. How awesome...! So I changed into some normal shorts rather than my frog pi's, and then went outside.
This was quite an interesting 20 minutes of waiting before being allowed back in.
So I get out there and wait. As the students are all filing into the courtyard, a girl walks past in LITERALLY only a strapless bra and a thong. No joke. And she's walking around saying, "Yes I'm in a thong! I don't care! I like it!" I was just in shock. Like it's great that you are comfortable in your own body, but no one wants to see that! Seriously, have some decency. Oh and not to mention it was absolutely freezing outside, with crazy sting winds blowing, which she knew because you can hear the wind in the hallways/rooms of the dorms.
Not only was there a 75% naked girl walking around, there was also a girl who must've been in the shower because she was walking around in just a towel. Like put some clothes on girls!
So after sitting out there for about 20 minutes, freezing my toes off, we got to go back in.
Since my mini workout was interrupted, I was inspired to go for a run! So I know a few weeks ago, I know that I said I was going to have a regular workout schedule, but that kind of ended after like two. I just don't have time anymore especially when I work until 6 on Tuesday/Thursday and have practice until 5:30 on M/W/F, and it is already either getting dark, or completely dark.
So I put on a sweatshirt and went for a run!
After I got back I rested and watched more GG while doing my online Bio homework.
No school tomorrow! Which is really exciting :)
So I'm not sure what I'll do, but we'll see how the weather is. Today it rained all day again off and on, the wind is so extremely strong and loud, it's crazy!!
Okay, well I'm going to go now!
I'll talk to you tomorrow!
Goodnight <3
ʻElelūs, Kinipōpō hīnaʻi, a Wai hālanas ~ Cockroaches, Basketball and Floods!
Well, today was interesting.
I was woken up at 6:00 by my roommate who had track practice, which wasn't her fault, I was just so tired after going to sleep so late. I slept a little bit longer, and then was woken again when she got back and started packing her suitcase. Since it is a long weekend, she is going home again.
As she was packing, a very large cockroach crawled out of her suitcase, and she started screaming! It was hilarious! We finally squished the thing and cleaned it up, but it was quite the scene. :)
Once she left, I lied down for a bit longer, before getting up for good.
The middle of the day was pretty boring for me, it has been raining all day so the mood was very gloomy.
On the plus side, I got a care package from my parents! It was more of a snack package, though :) They sent tons of granola bars, pretzels, peanuts, almonds, popcorn, cookies and red vines! Score!
I also had to go down to theMarket and spend the rest of my meals. I got some Sun Chips, pop-tarts, cheese sticks and these protein bars I like.
So I'm stocked on snacks for quite some time! :)
At 5:30, I left to go to the Basketball game that I had to play at tonight. The time on the sheet was listed at 6:30, so I though I'd need to be there at 6:00. Well it turns out that 6:30 was the time to be there, and I was there 45 minutes early. Oh well, I got to watch the game prior to ours.
The game was very interesting! We played Western Michigan University and it was a close game! We pulled ahead though and won 78-68!
However, at one point in the game, I realized how invisible I actually am.
The flutes were sitting next to the saxophones, and I was on the end of the flutes. So after half time, the guy I was sitting next to was eating his nachos, and offered me some because he was full; I kindly declined. He then proceeds to ask me if I've been in band all year, I said "Yes, I've been here the whole time." He then says, "Really? sorry, but I've never seen you before."
I just thought to myself, wow. If my light blonde hair in a sea of 250 kids with black hair is not easy to spot, then like I said; I'm invisible. It's not like I'm one to strive to be the center of attention by any means, I just couldn't believe I had never been seen before.
Oh well! It's not like I'm not already used to it; being the shy one.
Anyways, it was still raining outside, it literally hasn't stopped all night, and as soon as I got back to my dorm after the game which was around 10:45, it started absolutely pouring rain and is still going! I have yet to see it rain this much since I've been in Hawaii. It is bad.
I even got a notification on my phone from the local alert station that there are flash flood warnings until 1:30am. That is kind of nerve-wracking because after the experiences I had with flash floods in California with my family, they are scary.
And that was my day!
I'm not sure if I'll do anything tomorrow, I'd like to but if it is raining all day, I don't know if that will work out. We'll see!
I'll talk to you all then!
Goodnight <3`
Lehulehu ~ Crowd
Rainbow Invitational Day!
It was just another normal day with class at 8:30-9:20, work from 9:30-12:00, class from 1:30-2:20, and work from 2:30-3:30.
On a typical Friday, I would've had practice at 3:45, but since today was our big performance, we didn't have practice! :) Yay!
So I had tons of free time, I utilized it by scanning and sending my Chemistry homework/lab that was due today, and taking a nap.
I got some dinner around 5:30 with Marisa at the caf, and then it was time to head off to the band room.
The bus left at 8:00 from UH. We only took one bus, so everybody who could, was supposed to drive themselves there, meaning that they'd get there at their leisure. Well the bus ended up getting to the stadium late and we had to rush to get our uniforms on and get everything together.
We then ran through some of the music, ran through some visuals, got a speech from the band director, sang the alma mater, and got pumped!
Show time!
This would be the first time we had an audience who appreciated what we were doing out there, as opposed to the typical crowd of drunk people, college kids, and drunk college kids!
Having 18 marching bands watch us and look up to us and appreciate what we were doing, was amazing.
From the moment we stepped out of the tunnel, there were cheers from them, but once we finished, the crowd was roaring! It was such an adrenaline rush, and an incredible feeling! :)
I enjoyed it a lot :)
After, Nathan and Marisa decided that they wanted to go to Zippy's and Walmart, so we headed off to Walmart and they bought some things. We then went to Zippy's and didn't decide until after we got there that we weren't really hungry, so we left.
They ended up getting McDonald's, which I can't eat, but I wasn't hungry anyways, so I didn't mind.
Then, Brent and Donisha, who I was with on Halloween, their friend Ryan and his family were at a Zippy's close by, and wanted us to stop in to say hi. So off we went! We stayed for about 20 minutes before having to go.
It was 12:45 at this point, and we decided that it was time to go home. So we drove back to UH, and stopped at the music building to see the Spring Band Results.
I made Concert Band, which is the lowest of the three along with 13 other flutes, but there were only 4 accepted into the top ensemble, and 4 into the middle ensemble, and most of them are music majors and/or upperclassmen. Most freshman make it into Concert Band, and I am perfectly fine with it! :) There are no chair seatings though, so I'm not sure how that is going to work out.
Anyways, he then drove us back to the parking lot by the dorms, and we all went our separate ways!
I didn't expect my roommate to be here, but when I walked in I saw her sleeping, and I felt bad. She didn't wake up, but I came in at like 1:30, so I kind of feel bad. That is why I am trying to type this up as fast as possible so that I can put my computer away, but also to sleep!! :)
So I had a GREAT day today! I really enjoy hanging out with Nathan and Marisa, they are so fun and nice :)
And that's it!
Until next time...tomorrow!
Piha Makahiki - Anniversary!
Today was my parents 26th wedding anniversary! Yay for them, and happy anniversary to you both! I love you both so much and wish I could've been there to say it in person! You are the most amazing parents anyone could ask for, and Molly, Jack and I are so extremely lucky to have you both there for us and supporting our decisions and dreams. Thank you for everything, and here is to wishing you another great year and many, many more to come :) <3
So this morning I got us and got ready for work from 9:00-11:30. Today I cut 150 ribbons (50 green and 100 gold) to tie up the diplomas next week! My hand hurt after cutting all of those. -_- I also worked on the programs for the graduation ceremony.
I picked up lunch and went back to my dorm to eat that before heading off to chemistry at 1:30, and then Hawaiian Studies at 3:00. Today our take home exam was due, and then during class we had a guest speaker who discussed crimes and prisons in Hawaii, and how it is worth going to jail if you are standing up for your rights as a Hawaiian. It was kind of odd, but interesting.
I worked again from 4:30-6:00, in which I did nothing work-related. They didn't have anything for me to work on so I just did some homework.
Once I got off, I decided to go pick up some dinner from the sandwich shop. So I order my sandwich, a ham and provolone sandwich on ciabatta bread with no mayonnaise or vegetables. As she was making that I went over and picked up a bag of original Sun Chips, which proved to be a very smart decision.
I go back and pick up my sandwich, pay for my food and walk to catch the shuttle. It was about 6:10 at this point and I don't feel comfortable walking back through the dark empty campus at night. The shuttle pulled up right as I got there and I got back to my dorm at 6:15.
I was so hungry and was super excited to eat my sub! I open it up and see green stuff sticking out of it...so I peel the bread back and what do I find?? SAUERKRAUT, PICKLES, CARROTS AND MAYONNAISE ON MY SANDWICH. I immediately scooped all of that icky-ness off and got it out my sight. It was gross. I wiped off as much of the mayonnaise as I could, but all of the flavored had soaked into the bread.
Awesome.
I needed to eat something and I didn't feel like greasy food from the caf, so I just ate it. This is where the sun chips came in handy. For every bite of my sub, I ate a chip at the same time to somewhat mask the gross, sour taste of my sandwich. I couldn't take it back because the place is clear across campus, so I just braced myself and ate the thing.
Next time I'll be sure and watch my sandwich being made.
I don't know if she gave me the wrong one, or she didn't hear me say NO MAYONNAISE OR VEGETABLES as clear as possible, but I don't want this to happen again.... :l
I also finished up my homework for the night, and now I'm off to sleep!
Well , that's it! Thanks for reading!
Talk to you tomorrow :)
Goodnight <3
ʻEha ʻĀʻī ~ Sore Neck
My apologies about not posting yesterday!
I woke up around 1:30 this morning, at my desk with my head on my Oceanography notes/book, and a pain in my neck.
I literally don't remember falling asleep, clearly, and I'm sorry for the missed update, and I'll just talk about both days in this post!
So yesterday, I slept in until 11:00, and then went off to Chemistry Lecture because our Chemistry Lab that I usually have on Tuesday mornings didn't meet. The lab we have to do for this week involves balloons and Amber and I are just going to do it in our dorm.
After class, I had a while until Hawaiian Studies, where I studied for the map quiz of Micronesia we had yesterday, which was easy.
In Hawaiian Studies, we took the quiz, and had the last lecture about Hawaiian Art and we were given our take home tests which are due Thursday.
And that was it for classes.
I then headed off to work! I worked from 4:30-6:00, and I did MORE data entry. It is better than filing though I guess :)
Back at my dorm, I studied for my Oceanography exam that I had today, finished up my Biology Lab homework, typed a paper for Hawaiian Studies and did online Chemistry homework. Somewhere in all of that, I ended up falling asleep at my desk!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now for today!

I woke up this morning in my bed, which I moved to after waking up with my head on the hard wood. I had my Bio lecture this morning, and then my Bio Lab, which was nice today! No more harsh comments or nasty attitudes toward me, and even more jokes cracked. Although one of our partners left half way through just because he decided he didn't want to be there. The TA's will take care of it though. We didn't have an experiment today, instead it was all filling out punnett squares and working with an online program about fruit fly matings.

It was then time for my Oceanography exam! Overall I feel that it went well, but there were definitely some things that I definitely did not know.

I only had one hour of work today, which was from 2:30-3:30, and I did even more data entry.

After going back to my room to change and get my things ready for practice, I headed off to the field. This was the final rehearsal before Rainbow Invitational, which I finally found out is actually a marching band competition for 17 marching bands in the area, and we are the final band, playing as the exhibition band! That's why this is such a big deal, and honestly practice was quite stressful. It was raining the entire time, practice went over by a half hour, people weren't focused, we got yelled at for not being focused, and then we had sectionals after. Let's just say, I'm beat!

I finished my take home test that is due tomorrow, and was feeling quite nauseous, so I've been laying in bed for a while with a washcloth on my forehead.

I'm now off to sleep.
I hope you're all well!
Goodnight <3
